Greetings Reuse Fans,
I want to draw your attention to some bowling alley dining tables we have in the store. These tables are made solely from materials our Deconstruction team salvaged. We have six unique tables available! Each is slightly different because they come from different sections of the bowling alley. One table is all maple (this is the hard wood surface that takes the brunt of the force from the bowling ball’s release). Three tables are maple and Douglass fir mix, and two are all Douglass fir! The bowling alley tops came from the former Swissvale Lanes (now Switch & Signal Skatepark, who allowed our deconstruction crew to come in and salvage this great material in order to prevent it from going to waste), and the solid maple table bases came from work tables rescued from a high school chemistry lab in Ford City before the building was demolished. Even the wood used to frame the tables came from various salvage projects.
The tables were fabricated with input from CJ staff and constructed by master carpenter, Tony, who works in our facility as part of Project RE_. You may have seen the prototype table we advertised last month as we began this project. Generally Project RE’s_ master carpenter is imparting his skills and guidance to the Urban Design Build Studio architecture students from CMU, or apprentices from the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh (our Project RE_ partners). Because the Project has some construction downtime, Tony was able to put his skill to work crafting these unique tables.

We get very excited when we see beautiful things created from materials we salvaged, and we often don’t get an opportunity to craft this inspirational stuff right here in the store. We are proud of the result, and we hope that they will become a very special part of someone’s home or business. This is reuse, beautifully executed!
