Greetings Reuse Fans,
At CJ, we strive to extend our mission to do good beyond our work to promote conservation. We have an exciting new project partnership to announce, with the Studio Blue At Shuman Furniture Exchange and Revamp Community Service Project.
Started by Gerry Florida, of Florida Recycled, this is a first of its kind partnership with the youth of the Allegheny County Shuman Juvenile Detention Center, to artfully refurbish distressed furniture. Distressed furniture is donated to Shuman Center, where Shuman Center residents sand, prime, paint and hand decorate each item. The finished items are donated back to a nonprofit which then sells them. Gerry was honored as a 2018 Cribs For Kids Women Of Achievement Award.
We are donating furniture and paint to the project, and the refurbished pieces that we donated will be sold here at CJ! You may have seen some items at Habitat for Humanity’s newly reopened Pittsburgh Restore, which was the first nonprofit partner in this excellent project.
We love that youth have the opportunity to work with reused materials, to use their creativity, and to see that their hard work and creativity has value!
