Only one more month to qualify for a 2019 tax deduction when you get your donation picked up or deconstructed by Construction Junction, or when you drop off your donation at the store. Many of the donations that come to CJ are from homeowners and don’t offer much of a tax deduction opportunity for the donors.
However if you are doing a major kitchen remodel and the kitchen you are replacing might be a say a 20 piece cherry wood set complete with appliances, you could be eligible for a significant tax deduction. And if you own or work for a business, then the benefits can be much greater.
If you are a building owner you might benefit from a deconstruction. Currently our deconstruction crew is salvaging materials from a multi-unit condo project that was stopped in mid construction. The materials installed before the project was halted have value from a tax deduction standpoint which is being captured by our deconstruction crew for reuse – so both the owner and CJ get a benefit from this work!
An important note for high value donations, when your donation exceeds a fair market value of $5,000 you need to have the donation appraised. CJ can point you in the right direction to resources to help you document the value of your donation.
If you are a contractor or building material retailer or wholesaler, contact us for a pick up to clear out your materials you don’t want to keep track of in inventory or if you need to free up space for the new year. For businesses, if there are any questions regarding the tax deductibility of your donation, check with your accountant. If he or she is uncertain, we can also recommend some resources to help navigate this decision.
Your high value donations help CJ continue to meet our mission. Every time you hear a radio ad encouraging you to donate your old vehicle to support a cause – like public radio for example – just substitute “large kitchen set with appliances” for “car.” Or your materials from a whole house or commercial building renovation!
Get on the schedule, call our donations department at 412-243-5025 ext. 11 or email about your donation pick up or deconstruction work soon!
Thanks for supporting reuse!
