The Latest Updates On All That’s Happening Around CJ

Behind The Scenes Insight From The Desk of Executive Director Mike Gable

Greetings Reuse Fans!

On some Fridays, for this blog post, either the mental well is dry or I just don’t have a particular topic that jumps out at me to share with you. I think I reach this point when there is so much stuff happening that focus is impossible (some might say that is my constant condition….)

So, for fun here are some of my “irons in the fire” for the last couple of weeks:

  • CJ is exploring putting solar on our roof.
  • We are sourcing materials for Project RE_ to use in work being done at the New Sun Rising offices in Millvale-at the old Moose Lodge- a great adaptive reuse project.
  • CJ is developing a trade show display to showcase Reuse Retail, our integrated inventory, donor management and POS system, at the Building Material Reuse Association (BMRA) conference in Grand Rapids MI on September 19th, 20th & 21st.
  • We are developing a deconstruction presentation for several upcoming community meetings in September-stay tuned for specifics.
  • Our deconstruction crew has been working with Landforce trainees on a salvage project in Homewood.  We are exploring ways we can integrate Landforce trainees into our future deconstruction projects. As well as others trainees from other job training programs!
  • We are expanding our Goodwill training program. Our next group of trainees will be more focused on the sales floor under the supervision of our current Goodwill manager, Joe, who will be expanding his duties at CJ (more on this as we are implementing the expansion).
  • Handmade Arcade will be providing the live art at the Big Pour ( a giant spin art contraption!)
  • CJ is represented on the Board of the Pennsylvania Resources Council and on the Committee on the Environment of the AIA in Pittsburgh.
  • At our warehouse sale this weekend we will be receiving help from a new partnership with Auberle’s youth employment programs.

We are committed to playing an active role in our community, seeking partnerships and ways for reuse to create opportunities for everyone.

Thank you for supporting Reuse!

Mike Gable, Executive Director
