If you want an honest answer, we’d have to say that it’s a shame to see such iconic pieces of pop culture fading from the present day. But that’s probably also a bit sepia-toned. If businesses like drive-ins, record stores, and bowling alleys can no longer turn a profit, then they will be shuttered and revamped for the latest trends. That’s the way this all works, right? Maybe, but when you deal with materials that often come from a bygone era, it’s hard not to wax romantic. The good news is, as an organization dedicated to preserving materials from the past, we’re here to offer them a second chance through reuse.
Anyway, what’s all this rambling about? This week we completed our deconstruction job at the former Forward Lanes in Squirrel Hill. So that means we have a ton of great material to offer! Not just the salvaged lane wood slabs, but also lots of items and elements that might be a bit nostalgic to folks interested in reclaiming a bit of Pittsburgh history.
As always, make sure to stay current on what’s available on our featured inventory page. Make sure to check out our blog post with more info about our Forward Lanes salvage job.
Some more specifics on the bowling lane wood: We have 4 distinct types of slab available (all slabs are 42″W x 2.25″ thick):
- All Douglas Fir (6 or 8’L, $12/sq. ft.)
- All Maple (6 or 7’L, $13/sq. ft.)
- Finger-Jointed Maple + Douglas Fir (8 or 10’L, $13/sq. ft.)
- Maple + Douglas Fir W/Marker Arrows (8 or 10’L, $13.50/sq.ft.)
We also have synthetic lane refinishing sheets that were used over top of some of the original lanes. Very tough stuff.
