Over the last few months, our deconstruction crew was fortunate enough to work on a large scale church salvage project that included the complete sets of stained glass designed by Milcho Silianoff, born in Wilmerding, PA. He designed glass panes for the Pittsburgh Stained Glass Studio in the West End before opening his own studio in Westmoreland County during the 1960s. He also wrote a book about his style and approach to the craft of stained glass.
Silianoff, who passed in 2003, has many works around the Pittsburgh area, include panels at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Garfield, St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in McKees Rocks., Holy Cross Greek Orthodox in Mt. Lebanon, Twin Valley Mausoleum in Delmont, St. Vincent College in Latrobe, the Cathedral of Learning, as well as a famous piece at the JFK Memorial Chapel at Fort Bragg.
While we know that many of our customers may be excited to purchase smaller panels and sections, we wanted to see if there was an interest for complete arrangements first before separating these intricate designs. The largest bays measure 9ft tall and 18ft wide, with mirrored layouts that featured identical patterns set in correlation, as well as unique vertical 4 panel designs and t-shaped layouts.
Anyone who may be interested in purchasing a full layout can email our deconstruction department for more information.
It’s certainly not everyday that we are able to salvage the full arrangement of such unique work designed for one building by a single artist, especially someone with such a rich historical connection to the area. We hope to be able to share more about this amazing project and the opportunity to save these and many more materials in the near future.
