Financial Donations

Make a contribution to support Construction Junction

While material donations are the lifeblood of our organization, funding for many programs and initiatives would not be possible without the help of our incredible community of supporters

We’re putting boots on the ground to keep materials from getting buried

600 million tons of construction and demolition (C&D) waste are generated each year, including wood, glass, doors, windows, and fixtures that end up in ground, buried in landfills. Our mission–to support conservation through the reuse of building materials–relies on keeping these materials out of the ground by providing convenient drop off service at our warehouse in Pittsburgh’s East End as well as free pick up of building materials by our donations & logistics department. But what happens when the call comes for bigger jobs? As we prepare to begin a partnership with the City of Pittsburgh pilot program to deconstruct between 20 and 30 city-owned properties slated for demolition, your support will help to offset the expenses, including labor, tools, equipment rental, transportation and administrative work.

Reductions of lead paint/particulate and greenhouse gas emissions from demolition

Help us reach our goal of a $25k deconstruction readiness fund

Our goal of $25,000 will help us to be prepared for more salvage opportunities as they arise. Not only does deconstruction save a wider variety of items from the waste stream, but it benefits the community by:

  • Creating jobs
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions created by new manufacturing
  • Addressing blight
  • Limiting lead particulate pollution from demolition
  • Building a more circular economy

When it comes down to crunch time

CJ’s deconstruction department has worked over the past 20 years as a hands-on, dedicated part of our operation, performing the task of removing doors, trim, flooring, stair parts, cabinets, pretty much anything that can be reused, and salvaging those items from large demolition and rehabilitation projects so that they can be made available in our retail inventory. Through grant funding, this department has grown and adapted in order to handle a larger workload by partnering with various labor resources, job training programs and workforce development organizations like the South Hilltop Men’s Group to utilize additional manpower. Several of CJ’s largest and most impactful deconstruction jobs could not have been completed without the assistance provided by these partnerships.

How To Contribute

You can help support our mission

Organizations like ours are not effective without your support and Pittsburgh isn’t a true community without the work of nonprofits to create jobs, provide essential services, protect our environment and work with vulnerable populations. Your financial donation also helps to support the day to day operation of Construction Junction, makes partnerships like our Goodwill job training program and our deconstruction training with the South Hilltop Men’s Group, as well as help purchase protective equipment to keep our staff, customers and donors safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A financial or stock donation can be reserved for specific purposes if you wish – support job training, or workshops, or you could even sponsor a make-over for our restrooms – or you could sponsor the Steel City Big Pour®!
