Greetings Reuse Fans,
Happy New Year! I realize it’s a bit late for a HNY salutation, but this is my first blog post for 2020. I appreciated the time to spend with my family over the holidays, I hope you did as well.
I will be doing some recapping over the next couple of weeks of CJ successes in 2019. The first metric that jumps out from 2019 is the value of donations the organization received from businesses and the public! Nearly 1.8 million dollars of material value traveled through our dock doors last year. This is one of the top years for donation value in the organization’s 20 year history.
This year our deconstruction crew brought in 20% of the material value, which is the strongest performance from this acquisition department since its implementation in 2003. Our partnership with the South Hilltop Men’s Group job trainees was instrumental in obtaining the value and volume of material. Deconstruction opportunities for this month are continuing the strong trend we experienced last year, and we already engaged in training. Thank you for a banner year for deconstruction and keep the opportunities coming.
In 2019, 39% of our material value came from our free pick up service. Our pick up crew put in an incredible effort in 2019–working extra hours and often on short notice when asked to meet the requests of our donors.
Last but certainly not least, 41% of our material is dropped off at our warehouse. We appreciate your efforts to get material to us.
CJ will continue to put our strongest effort into creating opportunities for the public to choose reuse over the landfill. But it only works when you make the choice!
Thank you for supporting reuse,
Mike Gable
