Hi everyone!

First and foremost, we we’re completely amazed by each and every submission to our 2021 Reuse Renovations contest! A huge thank you to all who took the time to submit your pandemic projects for consideration (and a standing ovation for choosing to utilize reuse materials).

With the postponement of this year’s Pittsburgh Home & Garden show, we needed a way to create some buzz and a little public involvement in the voting process. Since this happened in March, we decided that a college basketball style bracket for our social media followers could be fun. We organized the projects in a way we think creates a level playing field. The rankings for projects were based on scope, scale, processes involved, fabrication, and reuse content. Projects will also be selected from each of the 4 groups by members of CJ staff. The bracket results will be applied and then through a super-secret and very highly regarded process, we will pick a winner and runner-up for each group. These will be displayed in the store as part of our Earth Month celebration this April as well as our home show booth in October.

Enough of the details. Let’s check out the projects:

  • Bookshelf Basement Steps - Submitted by Del - Redone with bookshelf pieces.
  • Planed Cedar Shelving Unit - Submitted by Kevin - Custom built shelving system with planed doors and pipe.
  • Kitchen Remodel - Submitted by Heather - A workbench and a blue sink transform this kitchen.
  • Home School - Submitted by Sara - Plans changed and a home schooling set up was created with secondhand items.
  • Mosaic Tile Table Top - Submitted by Wendy - Round wooden table top done in reused ceramic tile pieces.
  • Refurbished Pooley Cabinet - Submitted by Eric - An old radio cabinet finally gets rebuilt and refinished in bright blue.
  • Repurposed Greenhouse - Submitted by Tim - Greenhouse built to cover a leaky door.
  • Pocket Door Table - Submitted by Wendy - Custom glass top pocket door table.
  • Surf Board Mosaic - Submitted by Sherry - This recycled glass mosaic with a sea turtle design was created for a bathroom remodel.
  • Mirrored Wine Rack - Submitted by Helen - A wall-hanging mirrored wine rack made with secondhand items.
  • Witch's Apothecary Cabinet - Submitted by Charles - A spooky set piece for a haunted house made entirely from used and found items.
  • Organ Pipe Leather Rack - The perfect addition to a renovated live/work space in an old church.
  • Van Interior - Submitted by Delvin - Living the van life with a van camper conversion.
  • Door Do-Overs - Submitted by Kristine - Reused doors from CJ turned into some slick sliders.
  • Corner Cabinet Kitchen Island - Submitted by Amy - A little ingenuity transformed this coffee table, two kitchen cabinets, a top and some stylish details into a repurposed kitchen island.
  • Bug Abode - Submitted by Ryan - Sometimes just trying to clean and organize your workspace spawns an idea for a new project.
  • Bowling Alley Kitchen Island - Submitted by Kathleen - Never underestimate what can be accomplished with a slab of bowling lane and an old drafting table.
  • Restored Leaded Glass Windows - Submitted by Sue - The craftsmanship of these old leaded glass windows were worth taking the time to save.
  • Reclaimed Teak Shelf - Submitted by Kevin - Made more from less with an incomplete modular shelving unit.
  • Night Stand Makeover - Submitted by Kristin - Sometimes the right find just needs some revamping.
  • Bowling Lane Bar Shelf - Submitted by Kyle - Bowling ball return ramps transformed into a sturdy wine rack.
  • Sink/Laundry Room Project - Submitted by Ashley - An epic sink restoration completed this laundry room glow up.
  • Reclaimed Wood Wall Art - Submitted by Carolyn - Decorate It Yourself with new wall hangings made from recaimed wood.
  • Lumber Scrap Hexagon Shelves - Submitted by Joann
  • Reclaimed Wood Dorothy Door - Submitted by Walt - Salvaged wood can be the star of the show.
  • Chalkboard Door - Submitted by Martha - An inspirational finish for an incomplete home project.
  • Restored Record Cabinet - Submitted by Kayleigh & Anthony - A cherished family relic gets a new look and inspires new hobbies.
  • The Vesper Room - Submitted by The Abbey on Butler - The reimagined space at this restaurant and pub in Lawrenceville features a host of salvaged stained glass and gothic style trimwork from a church deconstruction project.
  • Chicken Coop/Shed Combo - Submitted by Lori and Tom
  • Rooke's Nest - Submitted by Amber - A DIY house transformation, from truly as-is to a total dream.
