All recycling services are available ONLY during regular business hours.
For information regarding the City of Pittsburgh recycling area located here in the upper lot, please visit the city site.
Construction Junction does not operate this recycling drop off and can’t provide any details regarding what is accepted there. The recycling area is only accessible during regular CJ hours of operations. Our lot is gated and locked during off hours.
There is a $10 handling fee for acceptance of ALL refrigerant-containing appliances.
When you bring any refrigerant appliance here for donation or recycling, you must come into the store to pay the fee at the front register FIRST. After you are provided your fee receipt, then reverse your vehicle to the Donate Here doors to drop your item(s) off. Donation receiving staff will ask to see your receipt before handling any Freon appliances.
Proper refrigerant recapture and appliance refurbishing is handled by Appliance Warehouse. Appliances that can’t be refurbished are recycled for the scrap metals. Your fee supports Construction Junction continuing to offer this environmental service.
Please DO NOT go directly to the metal scrap dumpster with your items without speaking with a CJ employee at the receiving docks!
We DO NOT pay for scrap metal.
If you have any old metal cabinets, hardware, non-working metal appliances, short pieces of steel studs, etc., bring them to Construction Junction and help us reduce our disposal costs and promote recycling. Please reverse your vehicle to the Donate Here doors to make your scrap metal donation.
We reserve the right refuse any material that does not meet our acceptance policies.
There are recycling fees for acceptance of ALL individual light bulbs, ballasts, and alkaline batteries.
When you bring any items for recycling, you must come into the store to pay the fee at the front register FIRST. Bring smaller items that can be accepted at the register with you. With larger items or quantities, after you are provided your fee receipt, you will be asked to reverse your vehicle to the Donate Here doors to drop your item(s) off. Donation receiving staff will ask to see your receipt before handling any recycling items.
$1 fee per bulb
$1 fee per pound, rounded up in half pound increments
$0.25 fee per battery
Important: Terminals of each battery must be taped over because even the residual energy of a spent battery can start a fire.
Any kind of tape will do. Thank you!
Home owners and small contractors bring us your PVC/vinyl scrap. We ask that you bring the materials to our loading dock so we can pull any pieces of PVC material for reuse – we will enthusiastically accept your scrap PVC pieces or that box of vinyl siding that may have a few pieces left for recycling!
We can accept both rigid and flexible vinyl materials that have been painted, with some caulking attached, and a few nails are ok (but always preferable to remove).
If you have larger projects, like whole house siding removal, please call Michael Brothers Hauling to discuss options for collection or drop off and ask to speak to Tom Milani (412) 835-6428.
All medical surplus dropped off at Construction Junction is collected by Global Links Community Collection Network, providing convenient locations for community members to donate their no longer needed medical supplies and equipment.
Medical supplies accepted here at CJ are limited to specific items. Questions regarding all acceptable medical items should be directed to Global Links.
Free Ride is not a traditional retail and repair shop, but a bicycle educational facility operated by the community of people who use it. They sell used bicycles, parts/accessories, and offer classes and repair workshops. The entrance to Free Ride is on the North Lexington Street side of the building, towards the intersection with Thomas Blvd.
Important: Bicycles can be dropped off at Construction Junction’s donation docks only when Free Ride is closed.
PCCR is a non-traditional, non-profit art supply shop that accepts donations of gently used art and craft supplies. Creative Reuse has been located in the same building as Construction Junction since 2009, and the two organizations support each other in their shared quest to promote reuse throughout the Pittsburgh region.
