Greetings reuse fans,
My blog has been a little quite lately as I have been working with staff on preparations for October’s Big Pour, the partnership around our pilot deconstruction project with the City of Pittsburgh, our updated web site that will include e-commerce (as with all tech projects we have encountered unexpected delays), designs for a more inviting entrance into CJ’s facility, working with the PA Solar Center to put together a proposal to see if we can swing solar panels on CJ’s roof, and collaborating with the board of the national organization, Build Reuse, to put together our national virtual conference to be held October 19th, 20th, and 21st (registration is now open!) And, of course, supporting CJ’s COO/GM Missy Mongelli and our staff as we navigate the challenges of a summer we thought would be far less burdened by COVID concerns than it has been. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with keeping your masks on in the store. August has been a successful month for CJ because of our strong weekend sales and we hope to see you this weekend!
I am going to end this post with a link to two videos that connect our work to other CJ-like efforts around the country. We find inspiration in the work of others so I encourage you to check out the City of San Antonio’s animated video promoting deconstruction called The Tale of Two Homes:
Another excellent video was created to showcase the City of Baltimore’s award winning deconstruction program that targets blighted property and job creation.
We hope they inspire you as well!
Thanks for supporting reuse,
Mike Gable
