Greetings Reuse Fans!
There are days when our work at Construction Junction takes on a significance beyond our reuse mission. Today, CJ and the Project RE_ partners (the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh, and the Urban Design Build Studio from CMU) had the honor and privilege to tour 25 Mandela Washington Fellows from 18 different African countries through CJ and Project RE_ (they just left to see the Trade Institute in Homewood)! The fellows are participating in Duquesne University’s Academic and Leadership Institute which is a six week program focused on Civic Leadership Community Development, Entrepreneurship as well as other areas!
All of the fellows have a deep interest in civic engagement and public service exercised through nongovernmental and community based organizations and volunteerism. The fellows were engaged and asked interesting questions about reuse, job training, and the design work of Project RE_. They were all clearly passionate about taking what they will learn from their time in Pittsburgh and improving the job opportunities and services in their home countries! We wish them success and were honored to share our work with this incredible group of young people!
Pittsburgh has much to share with the rest of the world and much to learn from it!
