Greeting Reuse Fans,
If you are an architect involved with a big rehab project or house demolition, we encourage you to inform your clients about all the benefits of becoming a material donor. Our goal is always that of conservation and sustainability, as well as historical and architectural preservation whenever possible. Benefits of following the path of reuse includes tax deductions, diverting material from the landfill, job creation and providing the community with an alternative source to purchasing new materials.
This last week I was contacted by an architect who is working with a client on a full house renovation. All the windows (over 60!!) are being replaced as well as many of the interior fixtures. The windows are name brand and in good condition-great for reuse. The architect added the comment; “I would put these windows in my own house”!
By contacting CJ, the architect is doing a service for his client as well as the environment. By documenting the materials (photos, brand and dimensions) to be removed he/she is able to contact an appraiser who specializes in used building materials to assign an estimated value to the materials. Through the photos, CJ can inform the architect as to what materials we will accept. The architect’s client will then have an idea of the tax benefit he or she will receive through donating to CJ. Appraisal estimates are provided at no charge and provide a degree of certainty to understanding the value of the tax benefit, and whether you need to get a formal-appraisal.
CJ is here to assist making this process easier with our free pick up service as well as our deconstruction expertise. The savings, both financial and planetary, can be significant but your client won’t know unless we know about your project.
Both CJ’s deconstruction manager and executive director are here to help you serve the needs of your client. Please let us know if you have questions – or projects! – via email deconstruction@cjreuse.org.
Choose to reuse!
