Greetings Reuse Fans,
We hope your holiday season is being filled with opportunities to appreciate those close to you as well as neighbors whom you may be meeting for the first time! During the last week, Construction Junction has celebrated both opportunities.
On Tuesday morning was our annual CJ holiday breakfast, which is a chance for our hard working staff to eat, relax and not handle used stuff in winter’s chill! This year we recognized 2 employees (Mike and Joe) who have been at CJ for 20 years, 1 employee (Kevin) who has been here for 10 and another (Terry) who is a “youngster” at 5 years. Our Goodwill crew joined in the festivities and an embarrassing amount of bacon was consumed.
Last Friday, CJ’s Board President, Alexis Miller, organized a party for a group 37 children from the Jewish Family and Community Service’s after school program. These children, ages K – 8th grade are immigrants from East Africa and have been settled in Pittsburgh for 1 to 3 years. These children and their parents are our new neighbors. They had never been to CJ and they asked me great questions about reuse, CJ and how we get our stuff. With CJ’s special connection to Santa Claus (that’s a secret and not where we get our stuff) we were able to arrange a visit for the kids! Gifts were presented, a reuse art project completed and lots of holiday treats disappeared, rapidly, before our very eyes. We encourage you to support the caring work of Jewish Family and Community Services.
What a fun night! I am already excited about next year.
May you all experience the gift of meaningful time with family, friends and new neighbors!
