Greetings Reuse Fans,
There is s reason we chose to create our 20th anniversary logo around our truck. Our ability to provide free pick up of your donated building material is one of the critical components of meeting our mission.
CJ’s first truck fit the part of a scrappy reuse store, a 16 foot early 1970s International Harvester box truck with a stick shift. We had a local graffiti artist spray the words “Construction Junction” in wood and brick texture on the side of the side. The artist’s first name was Matt and he went by the graffiti moniker “Atomik.” You can still see his art at various tattoo shops around town, and I found an old blog post from 2009 of his work which Pittsburghers may remember seeing on the side of Marine Salvage’s dumpsters (in the early 2000s)! The owner (rest in peace) introduced me to Atomik and he did some truly inspired work for CJ, including a mural in our first retail space under the 62nd Street Bridge. Check out his dumpster art.
Like our first truck, Atomik’s dumpster work is sadly long gone, but his creativity helped CJ establish our unique presence in Pittsburgh. His was a great hand touched look for us in the scrappy “start up” days. I used to drive the truck occasionally in those early days because we needed to get the “stuff”. We have come a long way from those beater truck days. We now have two clean, leased trucks, complete with vinyl graphics, that give us 350% more volume to haul your materials back to the store. These trucks are responsible for 45 to 50% of the value of material we bring into CJ every year! Our pick-up service employs five full time people and is as critical today as it was when we first opened. We are also looking to hire another driver…. you just won’t be picking up building material in a piece of art!
Have some materials that you would like to donate? Get in touch with us.
We’ll pick it up!
