Greetings Reuse Fans,
Happy August! Here’s a mid-summer update on some of the stuff we are working on at CJ.
Beginning next week, we will be deconstructing a small kit barn for the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. We will be looking to sell this 36′ x 32′ structure as a disassembled barn, instead of just its parts. If you have any interest in the structure, please contact us. We will keep you posted on the progress as we take down the building. The price will be determined based on how the building comes down and how much material we can include in the resale of the structure.
We have some other potential deconstruction/salvage projects in the pipeline but we are still waiting on confirmation. We are always looking for projects, and still remain on the hunt for our first full-house deconstruction project. If you have a building that could be suitable, please let me know, and we might be able to feature your project and commitment to deconstruction at the Deconstruction and Reuse Conference in Pittsburgh this coming October!
Our box truck crew has been busy this summer with a full schedule of commercial and residential donations that has kept a steady flow of materials for sale in the store. We can’t emphasize enough how much we appreciate the support and efforts of so many people, businesses, and organizations that help to make reuse happen here in Pittsburgh! If you have materials that you want to keep from going to waste, you can learn more about our donation process here. Contact our donations and logistics team and we will be happy to assist you.
Our partnership programs, including Appliance Warehouse and Off The Floor Pittsburgh, have been very successful so far to bring in many items we know our customers are consistently looking for when they shop with us. Donations are the lifeblood of our organization, but by increasing our ability to supplement our inventory beyond the unpredictable nature of how and when materials are donated is a major part in making CJ an effective destination for folks seeking to accomplish any variety of renovation projects. We’ve also been working to improve our web listings in order to show you more of what is available in the store at any time. We’ve added some stock listings for items like toilets and filing cabinets (with more on the way), and we’re working to expand our inventory page for Amazon Paints and painting accessories.
As we head toward our 20th anniversary this November, we’re busy and hard at work here at Construction Junction to make sure that material reuse can continue to expand and be an effective option for the next 20 years and beyond. How can you help to support the circular economy in Western Pennsylvania? Buying secondhand, surplus, and salvaged materials limits the environmental impact of manufacturing new products, as well as preventing still-usable material from ending up in landfills. All this month, we’re also offering some extra savings. Every Tuesday in August, if you spend $75 or more, CJ will thank you for your commitment to reuse with 20% off your purchase! (We can’t offer that discount on all of our inventory, so there are restrictions. But as long as you still meet the $75 level, you’ll be eligible to receive 20% off all the eligible items you purchase that day.)
Oh, and tickets are still available for our yearly fundraiser event, our 13th annual Steel City Big Pour, happening here at CJ on SeptemBEER 28th. It’s a great event, featuring craft beer, cider, mead and food to sample from over 70 vendors, live music, art, raffles and more. The Big Pour makes a huge impact on our operation and allows us to continue to grow our mission!
