Greetings Reuse Fans,
It takes a lot of work to keep up with the amount of materials that we remove, pick up, process, and put out on our retail floor. On a daily basis we are faced with items that we know have low value and will require some processing to reveal an item’s hidden potential value. All of this is a time- and labor-intensive process.
As a mission driven nonprofit, we have the challenge of securing funding support for the programing we have developed, as well as the daily cost of handing the 100,000s of pieces of material that come through CJ. We cover our operating costs though sales in our store, our annual fundraiser the Steel City Big Pour, and grants, but also through carrying purchased products in our inventory that work well with our building material reuse mission.
The next time you come into the store or check out our featured inventory page, you’ll notice that we have expanded our supply of HydroBlox. We are a distributor of this product because it solves drainage issues and is made of 100% recycled plastic (and the product is made with virtually all waste plastics, not just the easiest to recycle, #1 and #2).
HydroBlox effectively replaces perforated pipe, with every square inch of a HydroBlox plank pulling in and carrying water to where you want it to go (see how here). Installed correctly, HydroBlox does not clog and does not require gravel. We encourage you to come into CJ and check out our display to find out more. A purchase of HydroBlox at CJ helps support our mission of keeping useable building materials from the landfill. We are excited to support an effective product created with 100% recycled plastic content. You can also learn more about HydroBlox at this year’s Pittsburgh Home And Garden Show, at both the CJ booth (No. 3212) or their booth (No. 311)
We also have a large number of appliances in the store, including donated items as well as refurbished and scratch and dent models sold on consignment from Appliance Warehouse. In addition, we are expecting some surprise surplus materials through our partnership with Off The Floor Pittsburgh!
We encourage you to do some reusing, either on the supply or the demand side. We don’t have a preference, we just hope you will choose reuse!
Thanks for shopping with us,
Mike Gable
