Let’s Keep The Donations (And The Beer) Flowing!
Greetings Reuse Fans,
Just over half way through 2017, I would like to share with you how this year is going and news of some cool stuff coming up on the horizon for Construction Junction.
Together, we are breaking records for how much stuff we are keeping out of the landfill – thank you for being a material donor!
The flow of donations is strong – up by about 11% over 2016, and we have a significant amount of material in stock. Our pickup service is keeping busy, though our deconstruction unit is slower right now – so if you have full remodeling project or a demolition, please give us a call 412-243-5025 ext. 31.

This increase in donated materials means we have the opportunity to get even more stuff into renovation projects! We’re always looking for new ways to get the word out to find people who want to use the materials we have available – and we have lots in store! Our supporters are our best advocates – please help us spread word about CJ and reuse in the Pittsburgh area!
Approximately 80% to 90% of CJ’s operating costs are covered by the revenue from sales made in the store. Doing reuse on a large scale like we do is expensive. As you may know, we’re also committed to supporting the larger community, through employment and training schemes for those with barriers to employment, including an on-site job skills training program run by Goodwill that helps with processing materials for the store while teaching trainees practical and retail skills.
Filling the gap between our operating costs and the revenue from sales is the reason we hold the Big Pour fundraiser each year.
The 11th annual Steel City Big Pour is shaping up nicely with a record number of brewers on tap, and great food offerings, with some help from our newest partner the Sustainable Restaurant program. We are also excited to announce the live art for this year’s Pour, Monmade, a collaborative of local artisans and producers who will be crafting something special for attendees. They will also have other “beer related” products available for purchase.

We’d love to see you at the Big Pour – you can purchase Reuse Enthusiast tickets from Monday (17th) at noon through July 30. Reuse Enthusiast tickets include a $30 donation to CJ and a Big Pour t-shirt. These tickets don’t usually sell out and are a great way to help support CJ’s mission if you don’t have a renovation project happening, or if or you simply love what CJ does! (Regular tickets go on sale at noon on Monday, July 31st and usually sell out rather quickly.)
We’ve extended the deadline for available sponsorships, including the marquee t-shirt sponsor, featured on the back of the event shirts.
